Data Storage
There are a number of other products available which are advertised as being ideal solutions to creating a database of your model collection.
Most of these products only allow you to store a limited number of fields of information, usually a text description, perhaps a monetary value and usually nothing else.
Some other products are little more than a storage facility for video clips and pictures and have no functionality to actually record any information about your models!
How can other products be of any use if they don't store any useful information ?
CMS Stock stores a large number of items of information about your models, enabling you to identify specific features of your models, both for the purposes of recording work you have done on them and for identification for insurance purposes.
Customisation
How many products have you come across which display pulldown lists and the choice you want isn't shown ? Can you add your option to the list ?
With most other products, you cannot.
With CMS Stock, ALL lists are completely customiseable using the Administration options.
Internationalisation
Have you come across products which are specific to one country ?
CMS Stock can be used in multiple countries. Its option lists are supplied as standard with different options relating to different countries.
There is even a currency conversion facility so that you can enter your models into the database in the currency that you purchased them and have them converted to your local currency. You can even configure the exchange rates!
CMS Stock allows dates to be entered in the dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy formats, depending on your machine's configuration.

A number of other products are written in Visual Basic. This means that they come with huge run-time requirements which is often as much as 16Mb. Imagine how long it takes to download that from the vendor's web site!
CMS Stock is written using Microsoft Visual C++. This means that it is very compact and very reliable. It has no run-time requirements like Visual Basic applications do.
Reporting
Do other products have a reporting ability ? Is it selective ?
Many other products don't even have a reporting ability! They let you enter data into a database and provide no reporting facilities to get the data out again, let alone print it.
CMS Stock has comprehensive reporting facilities which are selective and can be printed. CMS Stock also has data export options so that you can export data into other systems - not that you would need to because it uses industry standard database mechanisms.
Appearance
A number of other products are dressed up Microsoft Access databases or Excel spreadsheets which have been marketed. They have very little functionality.
Other products look fantastic, but they don't actually do anything useful and don't store the core information that is required to be able to manage a collection effectively!
